Measure someone, right now.

This is the same engine the product uses. Nothing is stored, no account is needed, and the photographs never leave this browser — the pose model runs on your device and only the outline is sent for the arithmetic.

A figure appears to stand into. The shutter fires by itself once the pose, the framing and the light are right — so you can try this on yourself with the phone propped up.

Short of room? Use the phone’s own camera on either card instead. Your camera app usually sees more of the room than a browser is given, so you can stand closer — set its self-timer, prop the phone up, and walk into the pose. The measurement is worked out exactly the same way either route.

Front

waiting

Stand like this — your photograph takes its place.

Square to the camera, feet about shoulder-width apart, arms 20–30° clear of the body.

Side

waiting

Stand like this — your photograph takes its place.

A full quarter turn, until one shoulder hides the other. Arms straight down, hands flat against your thighs. Same spot, same distance.

If the numbers look wrong

Look at the outline drawn over your photographs. Almost every bad reading is a bad outline, and it is visible: a coat included, an arm merged into the torso, a leg lost against a dark floor. Close-fitting clothes, a plain wall, light from the front, and the whole body in frame fix nearly all of it.

The one thing you cannot see is a wrong height. In the product there is a tape anchor for exactly that. More about how this works.
